Esch-sur-Alzette
The ‘50s and ‘60s
Helen Buchholtz, 1905 © Charles Bernhoeft
To accompany the program of the Salon Hélène Buchholtz, the Bridderhaus offers a selection of 25 black and white photographs dating from the era of the Thirty Glorious Years in Esch-sur-Alzette. Through the lens and objective of Théo Mey and Marcel Schroeder, this exhibition sheds light on various aspects of photojournalism and documentary photography in the 1950s and 1960s. Between aesthetics, documentary concern and anecdotal details, these images reveal the city of Esch-sur-Alzette and its inhabitants, at a time when the iron industry dominated daily life.
